I enjoy complementing my personal interactions with patients with my public health research, allowing me to treat one patient at a time while maintaining a more global view of health at a population level. My hope is that research with a clinician’s perspective can help inform more effective healthcare decisions and policies.
My work largely focuses on the disproportionate burden of infectious diseases on marginalized populations. In the past, this has included studies on tuberculosis among migrants, HIV-related stigma in sexual and gender minorities, and HPV in people living with HIV. In recent years, my primary focus has been on HIV prevention for women, particularly the use of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)—a medication approved by the USFDA for the general population since 2012 (and since 2016 in France).
Despite the fact that women account for roughly 50% of new HIV cases globally (as well as 20% in the U.S. and 30% in France), PrEP uptake among women remains extremely low. I previously served as the principal investigator on two U.S.-based projects exploring strategies to improve PrEP implementation for women. Currently I hold a research position at Hôpital Saint Louis (AP-HP), where I work alongside infectious disease experts and implementation science specialists. Our current research focuses on developing targeted strategies to increase PrEP access and use among migrant women in Paris and its surrounding suburbs.
